Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an independent product safety certification organization that has been testing products and writing standards for safety for more than a century. All electrical products must pass UL test and get the certification and UL mark on the products to enter Canada and US market.
Basically, UL approval is your guarantee that the product you are purchasing has passed stringent flammability, electrical and mechanical tests conducted by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
UL is concerned with the safety aspect of all potentially hazardous products. UL’s testing and certification services involve a wide variety of product categories, including marine products and life saving devices, fire suppression, fire containment, fire growth and control equipment as well as analysis of chemical vapors and industrial, mechanical and automotive equipment. UL test for casualty hazards as well as products to protect against theft or fire and the proper installation of this equipment. Heating, air conditioning and refrigeration products are also tested.
